  2. Call the police. If you are not successful, report the accident to them within 24 hours.
  3. If anyone is injured ask someone to summon an ambulance and the police. Movement of injured persons should not be undertaken especially if likely to cause further injury. Try to get at least the name(s) of all injured persons and make notes of the nature of their injuries.
  4. Do not accept liability at the scene of the accident or give an undertaking to repair the other party’s vehicle or property or pay for medical bills which ever the case may be.
  5. Allow the police sight of your cover note or certificate of insurance.
  6. Take the names, addresses, telephone number s of any witnesses to the accident.
  7. Make a note of the police officer’s name , badge number police station where he or she works and contact numbers.

  10. Do not admit liability or sign any agreement except one given to the Police.

Indemnity

Most motor policies are contracts of indemnity, which means that when your claim is settled you should be placed in the same financial position that you were prior to the loss in as far as your policy cover allows.

Indemnity can apply in the following circumstances:

Total loss settlements

  • If a vehicle is damaged and considered a total loss, settlement of the claim would be based on the pre-accident/market value of the vehicle immediately prior to the loss but not exceeding the limit of the policy (sum insured).

Partial damage

  • For partial damage to your vehicle, restoration will be made with parts and material of similar type and age.
  • For example, if your damaged tyre, was 60% worn, we would contribute 40% of the cost of a new tyre, or supply you with a tyre of a similar model which is 60% worn.
